The short version: there are no accounts and no ads. The numbers you type into the calculator stay in your browser. We use Google Analytics to see how people use the site, like which pages they read and which buttons they click.

Calculator inputs

All calculations run on your device, and we don’t collect or store what you type. To make results shareable, the calculator writes your inputs into the page address (for example ?age=35). That happens inside your browser without loading a new page. The address only reaches anyone else if you share the link yourself, or if you reload the page or open a link with inputs in it, when the full address is requested from our host like any other web address.

If you use the theme switch, your choice of light or dark is saved in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers it next time. It stays on your device, and clearing your browser’s site data removes it.

Calculator on other websites

Other sites can embed our calculator. It runs the same way there: the math happens in your browser, there’s no analytics inside the embedded calculator, we don’t set cookies, and nothing is saved in local storage. The site you’re visiting has its own privacy policy for the rest of the page.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used. It records page views and a few actions: opening a calculator’s settings, which calculator fields you change, copying a results link, expanding a question, clicking a link to another site or to the App Store, and downloading the spreadsheet. It never receives the numbers you type into a calculator, only the name of the field you changed, such as “monthly contribution”.

Google Analytics also sees the kind of information any website visit carries: the page address, the site that referred you, your browser and device type, and an approximate location worked out from your IP address. Google says Google Analytics 4 doesn’t log or store IP addresses. We’ve turned off Google signals and ad personalization, so this data isn’t used for advertising.

In most places, Google Analytics sets two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID, so it can tell a returning visitor from a new one. If you’re in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, we don’t set these cookies; Google Analytics then only receives cookieless signals. You can block Google Analytics on every site with Google’s opt-out browser add-on, and Google explains here how it uses data from sites that use its services.

Hosting and fonts

The site is served through Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. If Cloudflare’s security checks ever need to confirm you aren’t a bot, Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary cookie of its own for that.

Fonts are served from our own domain, so loading a page doesn’t contact a third-party font service.

Some pages link to other websites, such as ssa.gov, irs.gov or, where we mention our iPhone app, the Apple App Store. Those sites have their own privacy policies.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page will change with it. Questions about privacy can go to support@bakermode.com.
